Colour 2022

Colour is everywhere, and we take it for granted. For a long time in history however, the materials (pigments) we used to apply colour, were very precious and surrounded with intriguing stories and mystery. While painting historical reconstructions for research projects Charlotte got intrigued by the fact that certain pigments have been in use since the beginning of Art History, are present in famous master pieces, and yet still occur in our daily lives. Everybody has touched charcoal, chalk, ochre, gold and indigo, which makes these types of materials a binding factor between high art, science, nature and everyday life. In 2021 Charlotte made a 6 part tv-series to further explore her fascination and to disclose the magical world of pigments to a larger audience. The series was broadcasted in 2022 on Dutch public television as De Kleuren van Caspers (Caspers' Colours). Each episode is dedicated to a specific colour with a raw pigment material at its base: Red (cochenille), Blue (indigo), Black (carbon), Yellow (ochre or iron oxide), White (chalk) and Gold.
