Come Closer focussed on Van Eyck's most famous artwork: The mystic Lamb (1432), that recently opened up during an extensive restoration campaign. The artwork ignored iconography and presented the altarpiece as a numinous object that tries to communicate with us. The golden panel follows the central painting of The Mystic Lamb in dimensions and structure. On the position where once the saints were depicted, now the beholder is reflected, whereas the X-ray reveals some of the hidden stories the artwork carries within.
The installation was later presented in Saint Bavo's Cathedral in Ghent, close to the original altarpiece by Jan van Eyck.
